Program Information

The Sun Peaks Alpine Club provides exciting and challenging on and off-snow programs for young ski racers all the way from our Nancy Greene Ski League (NGSL) to top level provincial competitors.

We are constantly striving for excellence within our programs and coaching staff.

One of our fundamental philosophies is to help our racers achieve their goals, and encourage them to support each other in achieving their goals, regardless of ability.

Nancy Greene Ski League Programs (U6 to U12)

***UPDATE: Most programs are currently full. Please email ngslspac@gmail.com to be placed on the waitlist. We will likely open more spots as final numbers are adjusted.

Our programs are very popular. Do NOT make any payments (e.g. family fee) if you do not have a confirmed registration. Any refunds are subject to a $50 admin processing fee.***

The Sun Peaks Alpine Club offers ski programs for skiers age 5 to 12 years old using the Nancy Greene Ski League format. These programs deliver customized free skiing and introduce young skiers to alpine ski racing. The focus is FUN on skis.

The “Snow Stars” program – a five step skills progression program for children at this age level – supplements the Nancy Greene Ski League and offers a fun method of learning the skills of skiing and eventually ski racing. Friendly competition is built into training days through various courses and terrain, including ski cross elements. Teamwork and enjoyment of the sport are encouraged throughout each training day.

Coaches are Canadian Ski Coaching Federation (CSCF) certified and Canadian Ski Instructor Association (CSIA) certified, many with ski racing backgrounds.

Programs are generally organized according to chronological age. However, within each age category, we strive to group racers in small groups according to their ability. To this end, our training groups will vary with respect to age and coaching so that each athlete gets the attention and direction that they need to further their development. All skiers in the Nancy Greene Program will have the opportunity to participate in one or two ‘away-races’, as well as our very own Nancy Greene Festival and Wacky World Cup events. Although children are encouraged to participate in races, they are not mandatory.

Prerequisites:
Athletes must be able to independently ski green and blue runs, for example Grannie Greene’s or OSV. (Pizza formation for our youngest athletes is ok. Use of edgie wedgies is not permitted.) Athletes must be comfortable riding chair lifts (coaches can provide boosts for the little ones!) Contact our NGSL Program Coordinator if you wish to discuss our program suitability for your child.

Volunteering:
At the NGSL level, there is no formal volunteer requirement. However, we do rely on volunteers to run events and races, and it’s a fantastic way to be involved and to meet other families! Plus you’ll have so much fun that you’ll forget that you’re volunteering! Volunteering can take many different forms: A shift in the clubhouse as club parent (a great option if you have younger children), hot dog days, races (both on-hill or off-hill positions), fundraisers, being a board member, etc. If you have any questions about volunteering, feel free to ask your NGSL Parent Rep.

Coaching Groups:
Requests for athletes to be grouped together must be submitted by both athletes’ parents to ngslspac@gmail.com by December 1, 2023. We will do our best to accommodate, however requests are not guaranteed.

U12 Accelerated/U14/U16/FIS Programs

Racers further increase their ability in the ABC’s (agility, balance, coordination, strength/speed) and continue to grow lasting friendships. Skiing days consist of free-skiing exploration on all types of terrain and in all conditions, free-skiing with technical focus, and gate training such as dual races, obstacle races, and slalom and giant slalom. Racers will continue to focus on skills in a fun environment, while benefiting from the camaraderie of training and racing with other athletes from both within, and outside of the club.

National Competitor Card Programs:
November to April. Training is offered Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Additional days and schedule adjustments will be communicated directly from the coaches.

U12 Accelerated (birth years 2013, 2012) $1875. Click here for additional program info.
U14 (birth years 2011, 2010) $1925. Click here for additional program info.

At the end of the season, any balance will be refunded or you may keep on credit for the following season. Specific details will be provided to registered families at the start of the season.

Refund Policy:
Program fees are refundable up until and including the second weekend on snow. There is a $50 administration fee for refunds. After the second weekend on snow, refunds will be provided for medical reasons only (Pro-rated program fees will apply). A physician’s note may be required. Clothing, event and race registration fees are all non-refundable. Volunteer Requirement:
The Sun Peaks Alpine Club is just that! A club for the parents, through helping at events, attending socials, coming out and skiing with other club members, it is a fun and social environment for the parents, not just your children. The club hosts several races and fundraising events which always culminate in an after-party for the adults (although often the event is a party in itself!) Volunteering is what allows us to run races and fun events for the kids while keeping program fees the best value possibly in Western Canada.

As a parent of an accelerated program member, you are the heart of the club and we need your help to keep the club healthy and thriving. There are many ways to volunteer and not all roles require you to be on snow or even do it during ski season. To advance the club and ensure its longevity, we need to resume the processes that were in place pre-covid. Registered families who did not volunteer for club events during the 2022/23 season, for a combined total of 8 volunteer days minimum per family, will have $2000 added on to this season’s fees. Countless hours go into the events that help keep our fees low. This policy ensures fairness for the families already volunteering, while encouraging everyone to assist in the successful execution of our events!

For the 2023/24 season, families will be required to submit a cheque for $2000 post-dated May 1, 2024. This cheque will only be deposited if 8 minimum volunteer days per family are not completed by the end of the season. Once the volunteer requirement is fulfilled, your cheque will be destroyed or returned to you.

We encourage all families to come out and get involved, meet new people and above all else enjoy the benefits of what the alpine club has to offer. If you have any questions about volunteer opportunities, please reach out to any board member.
